APPLE iOS : Double-press the Home button to see your most recently used apps. Swipe right or left to find the Motocaddy GPS app. Swipe up on the app preview to close it.

ANDROID : Press the ‘Recent Applications’ button to see your most recently used apps. Swipe up or down to find the Motocaddy GPS app. Swipe left or right on the app preview to close it.

Which smartphones are compatible with the S5 CONNECT and Motocaddy app?

The Motocaddy app is compatible with iPhone 4s or newer (running iOS 9.0 or later) and Samsung Galaxy S4 or newer (running Android 4.3 or later). Please note, not all Bluetooth enabled mobile phone handsets are compatible with the Motocaddy S5 CONNECT and pairing for other devices cannot be guaranteed.

Do I need to have my phone on me while playing golf?

Although it is possible to use the S5 CONNECT’s standard functionality without connecting to a smartphone, you will require access to the Motocaddy app to utilise the GPS and notification features. The Motocaddy app uses your smartphone’s GPS hardware to gauge distances, then transmits the distance data via Bluetooth wireless technology.

What is the range of Bluetooth connectivity between the S5 CONNECT and my smartphone?

The Bluetooth connectivity range is up to 30 metres (33 yards); however, the closer the phone is to your location, the more accurate the distance information will be. For best results it is advised that you store your smartphone in your golf bag when not interacting directly with the app.

Are there any fees to use the app?

The Motocaddy app is 100% free of charge. This is subject to change without notice subject to Motocaddy’s sole discretion per the terms of use, reviewable on the app. Motocaddy guarantees that any apps paired with a S5 CONNECT trolley will remain free of charge for the lifetime of the product.

How much of my smartphone battery does the Motocaddy app use?

This is proportional to the amount of time the display on your smartphone is powered on in order to access the map view and other app-side features. For best results, use your S5 CONNECT for distances at a glance and minimise the amount of time spent with the smartphone display powered on. This can increase the on-the-course battery life of your smartphone by up to 400% (as compared to other golf apps).

What can I do if my smartphone runs out of power?

The S5 CONNECT features a patented USB charging port that can be used to top up your smartphone if required. Simply remove the covering cap and plug a USB cable into the charging port located on the underside of the handle. The phone will continue charging for the duration of time that the cable is attached and the battery is connected. Alternatively, the S5 CONNECT can be used without the Smart features enabled.

What is Power Save mode?

Power Save mode is a battery-saving feature. When enabled, the phone will stop displaying the overhead course view. GPS is still enabled in Power Save mode, so accurate distances are still provided, and you can still track shot distances as well.

Does the S5 CONNECT app use any data?

Mobile data is required in order to access iGolf’s global golf course database, and also in order to display Apple Maps and Google Maps when in Map View. After selecting your course, you can select Power Save mode, then disable data on your phone. The app will then only use GPS for distances and Bluetooth for transmitting the distances to the S5 CONNECT.

Is the S5 CONNECT Smart Display readable in direct sunlight?

The S5 CONNECT features a transflective display that is highly readable in direct sunlight. It also features a Twilight setting that alters the look of the Smart Display to improve visibility in lower light conditions. Twilight mode can be enabled within the Motocaddy app settings. Please note that this does not alter the appearance of the app.

How do I setup my S5 CONNECT and Motocaddy app?

Begin by downloading and installing the Motocaddy app to your smartphone. It is available on iPhone through the App Store or for Galaxy S phones on Google Play. It is recommended that you register when prompted upon opening the app for the first time. After you are registered, select the Settings Button from the footer navigation bar on the app. Power your S5 CONNECT on by connecting the trolley battery, then select ‘Pair’ on the Settings page of the app. When the app and trolley have linked, the S5 CONNECT screen will display a unique 6-digit code and the app will ask you to enter the code. Once the code has been accepted, the S5 CONNECT will show ‘Bluetooth Paired’ and you are ready to start using the Smart features.

As soon as you select a course on the Motocaddy app, the distances for the first hole will be displayed on the S5 CONNECT Smart Display.

I want to play a course that has been updated recently or is not listed. Can this be remedied? If so, how?

Courses may undergo renovations from time to time. More rarely, you may come across a course that is has yet to be mapped by iGolf. Please submit requests for mapping updates or new course mapping to mapping@motocaddy.com. Requests will be forwarded to iGolf's mapping team and are usually processed within 7 – 14 days of submission. Once the course has been updated simply select the course on your app when you next play. The modified course will be downloaded at this time.

My S5 CONNECT occasionally displays inaccurate distances. Why?

Recent renovations to a course will require that the mapping be updated. See the previous answer for details on submitting requests for mapping updates. The accuracy can also be affected by a number of other factors including weather conditions and the quality of GPS processor included within your mobile device.

How do I manually advance holes?

The Motocaddy app will automatically advance to the next hole when you move towards the next tee. In certain situations, the app may not always auto-advance due to a number of factors including an altered tee position or incorrect changeover point. It is possible to manually advance through the holes using either the app or the Smart Display. To manually advance using the app, press the left (previous hole) and right (next hole) arrows at the bottom of the ‘Power Save’ or ‘Map View’ screens. To manually advance directly from the trolley handle, press the left (previous hole) and right (next hole) buttons located beneath the Smart Display.

How many courses are available?

As the #1 Golf GPS database, iGolf provides access to tens of thousands of courses across the globe, including over 36,000 courses in North America (the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico), Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, Europe (the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and many others), South Africa, and throughout Asia.

Are the S5 CONNECT & Motocaddy App tournament legal?

Distance Measurement Device (DMD) features are legal to use when local USGA and R&A rule 14-3 is in effect. Always check local and competition rules regarding the use of DMD and Push Notifications prior to commencing play.

How do I change the unit of measurement from yards to metres?

Distance readings within the Motocaddy app and Smart Display can be displayed in both yards and metres. This can be set within the app settings.

How do I power the S5 CONNECT ‘Smart Display’ on?

The S5 CONNECT Smart Display will initialise when the trolley battery has been connected.

How do I power the S5 CONNECT ‘Smart Display’ off?

To power the S5 CONNECT Smart Display off, press & hold the center button for 5 seconds, or simply disconnect the trolley battery. It is advised that you disconnect and charge your trolley battery after every round of golf.

Why is the course I have selected not loading?

A data connection is required to display GPS information. Enable data in your smartphone’s settings, and make sure that your phone is showing that it has reception. Alternatively use WiFi if available near the clubhouse or at home prior to leaving for your round.

Can I measure the distance of my drives and other shots?

It is possible to measure shots within the Motocaddy app. From the Map View and Power Save pages, there is a “Shot” button located in the footer. To measure the distance of a shot, select this button in the location from which the shot was taken; this location is set to zero (point A). The Motocaddy app will measure the distance as you make your way to your ball. When you are standing by your ball (point B), the distance shown is the total straight-line distance between points A and B.

How are updates made to the S5 CONNECT Smart Display?

The Motocaddy app has been developed to offer ‘Over The Air’ (OTA) updates to the S5 CONNECT Smart Display, allowing the trolley software to be seamlessly updated with exciting new features and upgrades as soon as they become available. Once a Bluetooth connection has been established, you will receive a notification on the Motocaddy app if a firmware update is available for your S5 CONNECT.
