Motocaddy x GGH - Why the perfect partnership?

It's simple. A Motocaddy trolley is proven to make golf more enjoyable, so there's no better way to play Golf's Greatest Holes than with a Motocaddy trolley by your side.

The story behind the show

It’s a conversation we all have in the clubhouse. “Where is your favourite course? Which is your favourite hole?” But it just so happened that this conversation was at Wentworth with former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley. He’s played all over the world in some of the biggest tournaments and designed a few courses too. So, he should know!

So, he started plotting this golfing expedition and they had anywhere in the world to begin their journey but just like his career he wanted to start in the island of Ireland. And what a journey it turned out to be. From the most northern spot of the island of Ireland, Donegal, south to Kinsale, as far west as Belmullet and East as Downpatrick.

Following the success of Series 1, the pair headed to Paul's "home from home" in mainland Europe, Portugal. Each episode featured holes selected by Paul for their framing, architecture, and natural beauty. From the rugged terrain of Porto in the north to the sun-drenched coastal playground of the Algarve, Golf's Greatest Holes Series 2 offered an immersive experience of Portugal’s broad variety of championship-quality golf courses.

In the latest Series, Chris and Paul head back to the Emerald Isle for an immersive trip around 153rd Open host - Royal Portrush. Featuring all 18-holes with some help from local favourites - Darren Clarke and James Nesbitt - the challenge to find Golf's Greatest Holes is back!

Episode Previews - Series 3

Episode 1

Our series opener starts at Royal Portrush Golf Club, home of the 148th & 153rd Open Championships. Located on the North Coast of Ireland, Royal Portrush is a fun course with a great variety of holes. Paul and Chris start at the first hole, “Hughies”, a challenging opener where winds can easily push shots out of bounds.

Chris takes on hole 6, “Harry Colt’s”, joined by former Open Champion, Darren Clarke. Located cliffside on lush, rolling hills, hole 6 offers stunning views of the ocean. Venturing onto Hole 4, “Fred Daly’s”,  the hardest hole on the course, Chris is joined by actor James Nesbitt. Framed by lush greenery and trees, hole 4  leads to a breathtaking view of the water as you approach the final stretch. Off the course, James and Chris meet for a drink and discussion at Harry’s Shack, the beachside coastal snug, along the Northern Ireland shore.

Episode 2

Episode two kicks off with Chris and James Nesbitt playing the 8th hole, “Dunluce”, at Royal Portrush. This hole is in view of the ruins of Dunlace castle, as well as the famed Magheracross Viewing Point, where visitors stargaze and look for the Northern Lights.

Chris and Paul then play the second hole “Giant’s Grave”, navigating the wide fairways, “pure links”, and amazing sand dunes, as Chris plays through a tricky bunker and gets a lesson from Paul on chipping. Next, Chris and former Open champion Darren Clarke play the 15th hole, “Skerries”. Darren tells Chris about his journey to success as a pro golfer, as the two banter and enjoy the beautiful coastal view. Off the course, James and Chris meet down by the beach at Harry’s Shack, for a glass of wine and debrief of the day’s game, and James recommends Chris visit the fascinating Titanic Museum.

Episode 3

The latest Episode begins with Chris Hollins and former Champion Golfer, Darren Clarke taking on the formidable 16th hole at the 2025 Open Venue, Royal Portrush. Surrounded by lush greenery, the hole borders a steep incline and poses a strong challenge!

The episode then heads to Hole 9, with sweeping views of the green and famous local coastline. Finally, Chris is joined by former Ryder Cup hero Paul McGinley to take on the third hole, a shorter test with stunning ocean views. Chris serves as a strong competitor for Paul as they both end with par 3s

Episode 4

Continuing the journey around Royal Portrush, episode four begins with Chris and Paul playing the fifth hole under rainy skies, navigating the ever-changing winds and weather.

James Nesbitt joins Chris at the 11th, enjoying views of Dunluce Castle and the Giant’s Causeway, with the town in the distance. They discuss what to expect at the upcoming 153rd Open Championship, including fantastic socializing and sporting spectacle. After a visit to Giant’s Causeway, Chris and Paul play the classically designed 12th hole before James and Chris reconvene at Harry's Shack to debrief the day over a cold drink.

Episode 5

Continuing their journey around Royal Portrush, Chris Hollins and Darren Clarke take on the 17th hole, where the main concern is the direction of the winds. Surrounded by small grassy hills and sand dunes, Darren shares his plans for the future Open Championship.

On to the 7th hole, which borders the coastline, James Nesbitt reflects on his childhood spent in this area, as well as his history with golf. For the final hole, Paul McGinley plays the 13th before returning to Harry's Shack where they chat about their love for Northern Ireland and the highlights of their day on the course.

Episode 6

The final episode of Golf’s Greatest Holes sees Chris Hollins, Paul McGinley, Darren Clarke, and James Nesbitt tackling Royal Portrush, host of the 153rd Open. Chris and Paul take on the challenging 14th, “Causeway,” while James navigates the tricky dogleg of the 10th.

Chris then joins Open Champion Darren Clarke on the 18th, where Darren shares memories of competing on the course, including the 2019 Open Championship won by another favourite from the Emerald Isle, Shane Lowry. After an enjoyable day on the links, Chris and James wrap up the journey with a well-earned Guinness at The Harbour Bar
